The gold midas touch of the Olympics Closing Ceremony ensured that Great Britain’s run of success carried on 2012′s celebrations. No matter where you are from in the world, there was something that impressed everybody. It isn’t an easy task, trying to wow the nations of the world but Great Britain sure did give it a go. Obviously, the main focus of the night was music and some classic hits were sung by various artists. The performances were described as ‘a symphony of British music’. However, did Britain score any fashion points? The Spice Girls once again found an inventive way to wear their iconic Scary, Baby, Ginger, Posh and Sporty aliases. Victoria Beckham looked particularly sophisticated in a custom-made black Giles Deacon gown.
However, it was the homage paid to British Fashion that really caught everyone’s eyes. David Bowie’s 1980 hit ‘Fashion’ played out over the speakers as tractors pulled along black and white billboards of some of Britain’s finest models – only for the billboards to fall away to reveal the models in person. All eight of the female models were clad in gold and looking beautiful. Inevitably, their choice of colour caught the eyes of the fashion conscious. The Olympics may be over but you can still go for gold in your wardrobe. It’s also an excellent colour to carry into Autumn/Winter.
The key to wearing gold is to not overdo it. The best way to avoid overkill is to go for one central gold item. Here’s our pick of the bunch and how to wear them.
A gold dress
A gold dress will stand out all by itself, so go easy on the accessories. Matching gold shoes or a simple black pair will complete the look beautifully. Black and gold are always a winning combination.
Gold jacket
You don’t have to be bold to wear a gold jacket. But you do have to be careful. If you’re going for a pared-down look, team with jeans and a white top, or even white jeans.
For a more edgy take on the gold jacket, team with a simple vest and disco pants. You’ll be the height of sophistication.
Why not throw your gold jacket on over a mini dress?
Gold trousers
Gold trousers and leggings are easy to style, if you know how. Slouchy knitwear and a statement watch are a winning combination.
Gold accessories
Not feeling quite so adventurous? Then gold jewellery will be a great addition to just a regular outfit. It’s okay to pile on the gold bangles or wear a statement necklace.
A gold clutch brings a simple touch of class, if you’re rocking the look for the evening. And smokey eyes are the perfect accompaniment to gold, no matter how you wear it. Check out this brilliant tutorial that shows you how.
Or, why not adorn your hair with gold accessories, for a very subtle take on the look?
And then you’re set to go. Will you be joining the gold rush?
